the butterflies & the bees.

i heart...

favourite friday.

this week at work consisted of making egg box caterpillars, paper mache ladybirds, pipe cleaner spiders, finger paint worms and symmetrical painted butterflies.

i love my job.

so much so it doesn't even feel like a job. nothing better than getting paid to be a big kid. maybe apart from the changing of smelly nappies & the trying to stop kids from eating their own bogers part.

anywho, keeping in with the creepy crawly theme this week i heart...

this not so creepy or crawly butterfly brooch from The Night Owl.

this saturday they will be selling their beautiful products along with 40 other lovely crafters, designers & artists at the Made In The Shade Summertime Hop.

i am proper gutted that i'm not able to make this, but you should be sure to have a swatch at all they have planned at their summery extravaganza.

and as if that wasn't enough crafty-ness for one weekend, this sunday Granny Would Be Proud have an event organised as well, where my favourite wifey Betty Swollocks will have a stall, among many others.

i am very excited, but very worried about the non-existent bank balance i will undoubtedly have by the end of it all.

i don't know about you, but i am well & truly fed up of the crappy weather we've had this summer.

what happened to the summers we used to get when i was wee? summers that i would spend entirely in water, whether it was paddling in the burn beside the woods behind my house, swimming in the freezing waters of loch morlich, or chasing waves at the beach near my granny & granda's house. summers that i would actually have to wear suncream & still manage to go back to school after the holidays and win the sun tan arm test amongst my classmates. summers that i seemed to live off twisters & mr freeze 10p ice poles.

these days summers consist of me still being surrounded by water, but nowadays it all falls from the sky, my arms & the rest of me are peely wally & i have to drink fruit tea to warm up.

so to pay tribute to our rainy summer, this friday i heart...

this 'right as rain' brooch from Kitschen Sink, the perfect accessory to this soaking scottish summer.

knitting through the generations.

i heart...

knitting!

it has been many a moon since i picked up a pair of knitting needles & a ball of wool. my last memory of it being my granny patiently trying to show me how to knit a scarf, which ended up just a few inches long, full of random holes & varied row lengths.

but today i used my great granny's size 7s, my granny's previous attempts of 'in, over, through & out.' which seems to be ingrained in my memory, as well as the emergency 'muuummm, i've purled a row instead of knitted one!' help from my mum...

and 4 generations of knitting know-how managed to produce this...

its half a tea cosy (which will have a bit of a twist to it).
i realise its not very exciting, but i am very chuffed with myself to have made this with my very own - what now feel to be arthritic - hands.

favourite fridays.

what a week. in the last 7 days i have managed to acquire a full-time job AND a rented 3 bedroom house in the country. its all go!

i have moved around more than a 98 year old gypsy lady. from my first house in australia when i popped into the world, to a caravan in my granny & granda's garden, to my trusty pop up tent whilst travelling solo round spain and a whole bunch more, making our new house the 29th place i've lived in to date. so as you can imagine i'm quite a dab hand at flitting and can pack all my belongings quicker than mary poppins and her magical finger clicks. but the thing i love the most about moving is making my mark on my new place, making it look pretty and making it not just my house, but my home. which brings me to this week's favourite friday.

this friday i heart...

this awesome material stag's head from wooden tree.

mounted stag's heads seem to be a must for country homes, so being vegetarian and slightly terrified at the thought of staring into the dead eyes of a decapitated animal, this is the perfect alternative. i love it.

my first customer!

i heart...

having my first customer.

my current plan of action is to launch my own online shop/website next month sometime. so at the moment i'm trying to design, make and stock up on as many products as possible, as well as footering around with my previous enemy html to make my website look prettyful.

anyway, last night i posted a wee photie of another cross-stitch greeting card i crafted...

and the lovely billy (you should most definitely check out his website www.monkeytwizzle.com, his photography is awesome.) got in touch about buying it. so this morning off i popped to the post office and my smarty pants card is now winging its way to his letterbox. i am more than chuffed :)

so i guess if anyone else would like to spend some pennies on my products before the website is up and running, you can send me a wee e-mail to iona@iheartdotdotdot.co.uk and i'd be more than happy to send the postie your way with a bundle of goodies.

postie, postie, don't be late.

i heart...

getting parcels in the post. actually, as long as it's not bank statements i love getting post full stop. it turns me into an excited little girl the night before christmas & sends me into a frenzy of hugemongous grins & uncontrollable giddy squeaks.
i am definitely going to make a conscious effort to send more letters & everyone else should do the same.

this morning the postie was very kind & left me a whole array of craft making goodies.

after a very exciting weekend (me & the boy have found a house to move into, with a whole room just for me to craft until my hearts content, excited!) i am going to have a nice relaxing afternoon of making & daydreaming about what the future holds.

favourite fridays.

after tweeting my weekly follow fridays this morning, i had a wee thought.

and that thought was to every friday take a peek at other talented crafters knick knacks & choose one that especially tickles my fancy, so you can have a swatch at them too.

this friday i heart...

this amazingly cute purse from peppermint twist.

i cannot wait till i have some pennies to buy it (and put in it.)

hello.

i heart...

starting a brand new spanking blog.

i will be filling it choca-bloc full of bits & bobs i make, arty crafty goings on & other bits & pieces.

the last couple of days i have been getting my cross-stitch on big time and managed to conjure up these two greeting cards...

but now i'm off to make some fruit tea, listen to 1950's jazz and sew some bows.

haha, anyone would think i was 73, not 23. but y'know what? i don't care :)
